I am extremely proud to welcome you to Yarnbury RFC. Whether you are joining us as a parent or a player, I hope you enjoy getting involved in what is, in my view, the greatest game in the world.

Rugby at Yarnbury is about far more than just what happens on the pitch. As a club, we want to share what being part of Yarnbury is all about. If you or your child have never pulled on a pair of boots before, don’t worry – many of our players start exactly the same way. I joined Yarnbury as a seven-year-old in the junior section and have been proud to represent the club ever since. I’ve played right through the age groups, from Juniors to Colts and into Senior rugby. I have had the honour of captaining all senior sides at the club – First XV, Second XV and Third XV – something that means a great deal to me. Those experiences shaped not only my rugby career but also who I am as a person.

Being part of Yarnbury has given me so much more than just a love of rugby. It has provided lifelong friendships, leadership skills, resilience, discipline and respect. It has taught me how to win with humility and lose with dignity. Most importantly, it has given me a community.

That is what makes our Junior Section so special. We offer so much more than rugby to our boys and girls. We provide:

* Opportunities to build confidence and leadership skills

We believe rugby is a vehicle for developing well-rounded young people. The lessons learned here stay with our players long after their junior days are over.

In the Junior Section we have teams from Under 7s through to Under 16s, all coached by qualified RFU coaches. In addition, the club boasts several ELRA-qualified society referees. Each age group is supported by a team manager and assistant coaches to ensure the smooth running of training sessions, fixtures and events.

As a proud amateur rugby club, we have celebrated many successes. In 2014, the 1st XV reached the final of the Senior Vase at Twickenham. Although we didn’t win on the day, the experience of travelling to London as a club to see players who had come through our Junior Section play at the home of English rugby was unforgettable. Over 75% of the team that day were products of our Junior Section.

More recently, the 1st XV were crowned Yorkshire Shield winners in the 2024/2025 season — a fantastic achievement for the club and a testament to the strength of our playing pathway. We remain incredibly proud that many of our players have gone on to represent Yorkshire at various age groups, demonstrating the continued success of our junior development system.
