Northwich 3rd prove too strong for Sefton

A dominant display from man of the match Blower

Northwich 3rd delivered a dominant first-half display before showing resilience late on to secure a 31–33 victory away at Sefton 3s, in a match defined by attacking flair early and defensive resolve under pressure after the break.

Northwich started with intensity and accuracy, building pressure through strong carries and quick ball. Their clinical edge saw them surge into a commanding half-time lead, with midfield power and support lines creating repeated scoring opportunities. Chris Blower was outstanding throughout the opening period, combining physicality with smart positioning and consistently breaking the gainline.

Captain Blower led from the front, earning Man of the Match honours after a tireless performance. His work around the breakdown and ability to keep the side organised helped Northwich maintain control during the game’s key moments.

The second half told a different story. With the home team having no other fixtures on the day, Sefton made several changes and stuck firmly to a structured game plan, building territory through penalties and controlled phases. A series of infringements from Northwich disrupted their rhythm but allowed the hosts to dictate tempo, gradually closing the gap, forcing the visitors to defend for long periods while under intense pressure.

Despite the shift in momentum, Northwich found a crucial spark when Blower again produced a moment of brilliance that lifted the team and halted Sefton’s resurgence. That flash of quality proved vital in keeping the scoreboard just out of reach for the home side.
While the final quarter demanded grit rather than flair, Northwich’s defensive cohesion and early scoreboard pressure ensured the win. The performance highlighted both the side’s attacking potential and the importance of discipline, with lessons to take forward into the next round of fixtures.
