CHIEFS UNABLE TO TAME LIONS

CHIEFS UNABLE TO TAME LIONS

We were warned.
We knew what was coming.
We did not react well.

At one end of the spectrum we had a team that was desperate and motivated, at the other end we had a team that was a bit complacent and did not have the same hunger.
The result was a 10 - 18 loss to the Chiefs.

Mt Albert now has the distinction of being only the second team ever to beat the Chiefs in competition play. A fact that their coach, Ramon, was well aware of and very happy about.

Where does that loss leave the Chiefs?
Well it leaves us in second place with two more games to play.
The two remaining teams we have yet to play are: Otahuhu Rovers (4th) and Howick Hornets (3rd).
The 3 top teams all have the same number of competition points and are only separated by points differential.
So....all the teams have the same aim: 'win the remaining two games'.
This will make for a tough and exciting two weeks to see who will make the playoffs.

What went wrong?
Complacency....leads to the following:
* Lack of urgency.
* Poor line speed on attack and defence.
* Inaccurate play.
Errors....caused by lack of concentration.
Not completing sets....caused by uncertainty of game plan and errors.
Not carrying out role....relying on others to do the job.

One could argue two of the tries would not have been scored had the Ref officiated correctly.
But it is our job to prevent them scoring irrespective of what the Ref has ruled.

The main thing is the concerns, the coaching staff have, can be addressed and are fixable.

The result was hardly the way we wanted to welcome our new boys to the team.
We will look to fix that next week.
The new boys in the team are: Miller, Siulala, and Ben.
The Chiefs family, friends and supporters bid them and their families a very warm welcome.

Video analysis of the game was limited due to a 'technical' glitch.
So an accurate tackle count was not possible.
