This league fixture doubled up as a NWML Cup group game and with minutes to go the Bank looked as though they would take all 4 points.
West Bank began the game like an express train, totally dominating. A strong opening set from the Tigers was repelled and a superbly judged last tackle chip into space from Luke Mullarkey was scooped up on the bounce by Morgan Kelly who flew into the corner. Mullarkey converted from the touchline.
The Bears pack were running strongly to set up the position for Dennis Charnock to pick his spot from AHB. Mullarkey converted.
Jack Craig instigated a superb back line move and a dummy from Lucas Lee saw him slice through the cover. 16 nil to the Bank.
The visitors were looking strong and most likely to score again but for once the smooth running attack coughed up possession and Hindpool ran the ball in from 60m.
A converted penalty saw the half end at 16 v 8 for the Bank.
The Tigers were benefitting from some dubious '6-agains' and sustained pressure saw them bring the score back to 16 v 14. The Bank hit back with another superb touch down from Kelly. Denis Charnock's pass was taken by Kelly who managed to contort himself to squeeze the ball down inside the corner flag. 22 v 14 to West Bank.
The home team took the lead with a soft try and a piece of magic similar to Kelly's first half score.
At 24 v 22 to Hindpool, West Bank were awarded a penalty 40m out. Inexplicably the official allowed the defenders to charge the kicker and the chance to share the game was gone.
West Bank had strong performers across the team in addition to Luke Mullarkey; George Charnock and Lucas Lee who took the MoM awards but not the Boat Race!!!
Two more away games are scheduled for this coming Saturday (31.5). Hindley away for the 1sts and Pilkington Recs 'A' for the AllStars.
