OLDHAM 12 MORLEY 34
Not our prettiest performance and definitely scrappy at times, but the graft was unreal. When structure dipped, effort didn’t.
Big defensive sets, second efforts everywhere and players putting their bodies on the line for each other. Plenty to review, loads to sharpen up but a win on the road and a squad that refuses to roll over. We build, we learn, we go again.
A huge statement performance yesterday as we made it 10 wins from 10 and kept our unbeaten run firmly intact.
Up against opposition from the league above, we knew it would be a proper test and it was. We flew out of the blocks, with Amelia crashing over in the opening minutes to set the tone. Our defence was immense, holding them at nil for 39 minutes through relentless pressure and repeated goal-line stands. We went into half time locked at 5–5 after they finally broke through just before the whistle.
The second half had its scrappy moments including a frustrating gifted try after some fumbling on our own line - but the response said everything about this group.
Captain Kirsty led from the front with a ruthless hat-trick, stepping up exactly when it mattered. There were also brilliant debut tries for Kiah and Lucy, both announcing themselves in style. Off the tee, Smash slotted two conversions and came agonisingly close with another.
Ten from ten.
Against a team from the league above.
Character, composure and clinical finishing.
Plenty to work on but even more to be proud of.
