Active Bystander Training - Monday 9 March 2026

Paul Hayes26 Jan - 12:23

A great opportunity to learn tools and techniques to help YOU improve spectator behaviour

Whether as a player, coach, volunteer, or spectator - rugby at St Austell RFC should always be a fun and fulfilling experience.

Unfortunately on occasion you may witness inappropriate behaviour but it takes a lot of courage to intervene and challenge the actions of an individual or group of people.

The RFU have developed a course to arm you with the tools, techniques, and confidence to be an Active Bystander so that when something happens that is not right, YOU can make a difference.

Course Details:

When: 19:00 to 20:30 on Monday 9th of March 2026
Where: The Lounge Bar, St Austell RFC
Course Leader: Rachel Miller, RFU

The session is FREE OF CHARGE

The session itself lasts 1.5 hours and is a very interactive, designed to equip attendees with tools to challenge inappropriate behaviour.

The session covers 3 sections:

  1. What is inappropriate (interactive whole group activity)
  2. Why we each have a role to play (slides)
  3. Tools for challenging (interactive small group discussions)

There is further information in the attached document.

Who Should Attend?

The course is open to all Club members but is particularly aimed at:

  • Match-day volunteers including stewards, gate team, car parking
  • Youth Coaches, Team Managers, First Aiders, Child Welfare Officers
